On a recent trip to Bali I was lucky enough to stay at Munduk Moding resort. The resort is about 3 hours from Denpasar. The trip to get there takes you passed large areas of farmland where a lot of lettuce, strawberries and cauliflowers are grown for the local market and also sold to restaurants in the Denpasar area.
This resort is situated 5,000 feet above sea level, it can be a bit chilly for the locals but for an Aussie who lives in a cool area of the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, I really enjoyed the break from the humidity of Denpasar. Arriving at the resort I was greeted by Gede Suparawata the Assistant Manager of the resort, he is from the local village and has been involved in growing coffee there for many years.
After settling into a lovely baliness villa set amongst the rain forest, I was much in need of a coffee. So I wander up to the dining area in search of a coffee and discover a lovely little Jura automotive coffee machine which hopefully would be able to meet my caffeine requirement. The resort uses its own coffee, which is a mixture of Robusta and Arabica beans, grown locally.
Being a latte lover, I always find a good milk coffee can be a bit difficult to find in some countries, where there is not a dairy industry like ours. The resort uses Ancore Milk from New Zealand, which is one of the better long life milks available on the market. It has a good, it is not too watery and easy to froth.
The machine delivered the best coffee it could and I then wander out to sit on the lawn area next to the pool, “sorry, did I not mention the pool?”
Munduk has an infinity pool, which has been rated by trip advisor as one of the top ten best in the world. At the end of the pool you can look along the coast line for about 150 kilometres on a clear day.
I often say, “A cup of coffee is greatly enriched by the surroundings and the people you are sharing it with”, this really was one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. Always remember “Life is too short to Drink Bad Coffee”.
