Instant coffee doesn’t have a great name for itself – traditionally it’s been the poor man’s choice, a cheap and not very subtle coffee favoured by hard-up students and those who didn’t want to go through the whole process of grinding beans and powering up – or even buying – an expensive coffee machine.
But that’s all set to change thanks to several producers who are taking single bean varieties and crafting really great instant coffee with all the taste and none of the hassle of grinding and filtering.
In San Francisco a start-up called Sudden Coffee uses single-origin beans from top roasters (and that’s part of the secret to great tasting instant) then dehydrates it into a powder which they claim preserves even the most complex flavours.
Sudden Coffees are not alone – single bean instant coffee is a growing business and there are some great instants coming out, so look out for some great tasting instant coffees from suppliers including Coffee Warehouse which don’t cost the earth and will definitely tickle your taste buds and have you asking, is this really instant coffee?
